    Default "Sawed off Shotgun"

    Does cutting a shotgun barrel automatically make it an illegal "sawed-off shotgun" even if the barrel length remains over 18 inches?

    It depends if you live in a Communist state or not. Cutting off a barrel or/and stock doesn't make it illegal by Fed law. As long as it meets the barrel length and over all length there is no problem. I have a few that I've shortened myself.
