NORWALK, Ohio — Authorities say a 13-year-old Ohio boy accused of making threats against teachers and classmates had two rifles and 400 rounds of ammunition when he was arrested in Dayton, Tenn.

The boy, identified as Calvin Riley, was taken into custody Wednesday night after calling his parents in Norwalk, Ohio, and saying he wanted to surrender.

Police think the teen took a rifle from home and a pickup truck from a neighbor's house. Authorities in Tennessee say the teen told officers the other rifle was in the truck when he drove off in it.

Authorities say officers investigating a missing person report filed by Riley's parents found a journal with the names of 33 classmates and teachers at Norwalk Catholic School who were indirectly threatened.

Riley was being held Thursday in a Tennessee juvenile detention center, a sheriff's deputy said.

The boy was taken into custody Wednesday night in Dayton, Tenn., after setting off a daylong nationwide search that began in Norwalk, about 50 miles west of Cleveland.

The Huron County sheriff's office in Ohio planned to release more information later Thursday, Deputy Joseph Leroux said.

Authorities said Wednesday that officers investigating a missing person report filed by the boy's parents found a journal with the names of 33 classmates and teachers who were indirectly threatened, although the alleged threats weren't specific.

Norwalk Catholic School, where the boy is a student, canceled Wednesday classes as a precaution. The school reopened Thursday.

Riley was last seen Tuesday night around dusk at the Norwalk Reservoir, and authorities believed he took a .22-caliber rifle from his home and was driving a white 2003 Chevy pickup truck stolen from a neighbor.

Authorities said the boy was found with the truck in eastern Tennessee Wednesday evening after he talked by phone with his mother and then called 911 from a store.

"He didn't know where he was," Dayton Police Chief Chris Sneed said Thursday.

Sneed said there was a hunting rifle in the truck. The chief said he was waiting to hear from Ohio authorities about their plans to come after the boy.

Rhea County jailer Fayrene Qualls said the teen was "just tired and wore out."

She said early Thursday that he was sleeping, and she was waiting to hear if a court hearing would be set.

She said the boy is facing charges in Tennessee, apparently for carrying a gun across the state line.

How is this a crime? Do the police (DA) just make crimes up as they go along? Or is this some 'juvenile' charge?
If he was arrested for making threats, why isn't he charged with that? If he didn't commit a crime, why is he in custody? Where do these bizarre charges likie "...carrying a gun across a state line..." come from?

Let's see, he stole a gun from his parents and stole a truck from the neighbors. He then transported those items across state lines. Nah, he's not a criminal he's just a good kid. Whether he was actually going to shoot someone or not, he committed a felony. Many states also make it illegal for a minor to possess a firearm without an adult present. When will we stop trying to defend these kids for their actions and start holding them responsible. At 13 he knows right from wrong.
