New Bill introduced

Representative Danny Bubp (R-88) of West Union and Rep. Jarrod Martin (R-70) of Beavercreek have introduced House Bill 203, which seeks to "allow a concealed carry licensee who is not consuming liquor and is not under the influence to carry a concealed handgun in a retail food establishment or food service operation with any class liquor permit issued for the location."

"The problem of not being able to protect one's family while out to dinner is one of the most common complaints I hear from concealed carry license holders," said Rep. Bubp. "They have proven themselves to be responsible, and there is no reason to think they won't be every bit as responsible while eating dinner as they are in every other aspect of their lives."

The bill has been assigned to the House Public Safety and Homeland Security committee, and is co-sponsored by Reps. John Adams (R), Ron Amstutz (R), Terry Blair (R), Courtney Combs (R), Dave Hall (R), Matt Huffman (R), Shannon Jones (R), Kris Jordan (R), Ron Maag (R), Ross McGregor (R), Barbara Sears (R), Todd Snitchler (R), Joe Uecker (R), Lynn Wachtmann (R), Jeff Wagner (R) and James Zehringer (R).

36 other states, including every state that borders Ohio, trust their citizens to carry a firearm for self-defense in restaurants that serve alcohol.

"Ohio is once again behind what the majority of states have already figured out," noted Buckeye Firearms Association chairman Jim Irvine. "The license holders are not the problem, so placing restrictions on them is not solving anything. Under current law guns must be left in the car while eating at most restaurants. Guns being stolen is yet another a real problem that HB203 helps solve."

Several other states are involved in a battle to restore self-defense rights for persons dining out with their families, with legislation under consideration in Arizona, North Carolina, and Virginia.

We just had similar legislation pass here in TN. Then the Gov Vetoed it, and the House and Senate overturned it.

We have the 51% rule here in MI, but it use to be that way, serves booze = No CCW.... Now they must make 51% of their profit from the stuff before it becomes a CEZ...

Good luck Ohio! Florida is one of the states that you can carry into an restaraunt as long as you are not sitting in the Bar area. It'll be nice if this passes one less difference to remember when I visit KimberRB.

As a customer how in the world are you going to know what a restaurant profit percentages are??

Isn't that ridiculous. I guess you have to carry a zoning handbook along instead of a mag holster. And a Fundamentals of Accounting 201 book in your ankle holster.

Nope both wrong it is obvious as all get-out, there are just bars that may serve some greasy disgusting item they call food, and there are the places that serve good food and will be packed with people at tables eating and not just there to drink their meal.

I know you all know of these places.... AKA A Dive that you would not go into with out an armed escort and where the cockroaches eat for free, V.S. someplace you would take the wife or maybe a good friend for a nice meal that also serves hard liquor.... Let's not get silly here boys....

How about the Bar/Restaurant hybrids? (Wild Wing Cafe for example or a BWW). These places have enormous seating for their restaurants, and just as much seating at the bar. Some places make a boatload of money from their bars, late night and weekends. And they charge an Arm and a leg for beer. I'm sure they are getting a hefty chunk of change from alcohol on Friday and Saturday nights.


I honestly couldn't tell you how much money they are getting from either side. The point is: If a restaurant gets 52 percent of its revenue from alcohol, is it really THAT much dangerous for CCWs to carry? Why is 50/50 the tipping point? Why not 83/17?
