Default Savannah - 8 Shooting in 6 Days

It's getting dicey in Savannah here recently. On top of this a family friend was robbed at gun point a couple of days ago.

Man shot in Sunday altercationBRIAN FRANCONE | Monday, September 15, 2008 at 12:30 am
A 22-year-old Savannah man was shot in the face Sunday during an altercation at a rooming house, Savannah-Chatham metro police reported.

James Timothy Smith was shot in the 400 block of West 35th Street.

Smith is the eighth Savannah shooting victim in six days. Only one shooting resulted in a homicide. No arrests have been made.

Police think Smith and his assailant knew each other, but they could provide no other details Sunday.

Smith was taken to Memorial University Medical Center with a life-threatening injury and was listed in critical condition late Sunday, according to police spokeswoman Judy Pal.

Shortly after Sunday's shooting, police identified Saturday's homicide victim as Jamari Taiwan Tilley, 23.

The victim was gunned down when passengers of a bluish-gray car fired several shots at him. He later died at Memorial of his wounds.

Police have identified one suspect in a Tuesday shooting. Jerry Nelson Sutton, 22, is being sought after a shotgun attack against Rufus Nicolas Anderson.

The shooting occurred shortly after 5 p.m. after a dispute over drugs in front of Sutton's home in the 300 block of Bunting Avenue.

Police are asking anyone with information about any of the shootings to contact violent-crimes detectives at 651-6728 or CrimeStoppers at 234-2020.

Unfortunately, even in places that are awash in guns, criminal activity can and does flourish. Let's hope that the perps get caught.

It's not just the bigger cities either. I live in a relatively small town and the rate of convenience store robbery's has increased lately. The economy may be in a decline but that's no excuse for violent criminal activity.

When times get hard it brings out the best in some people and the worst in others. Your are correct about it not being just in the big cities. It may be worse in the larger cities but there is danger in the small ones too. We can not get complacent anywhere we are.
