Optimal combat settings on laser sights to target and accuracy is 20-25 meters for me. Use (less expensive) Speer © Lawman 180gr TMJ for range fire, 5 boxes of 50 per is fun, more ='s field strip, clean and cool-off, move to 2-handed fire stance. Load
all rounds wearing thin work gloves, just in case a spent cartridge turns into a calling card I don't need 2 leave behind if I am ever faced with an iffy situation where
no one is in the right no matter what excuse a person
may have but I die if I don't do something against BG's shooting @ me.
Nothing illegal about being a cautious &
sterile clean armed citizen, plus prints turn brass black over time and rust follows tarnish which
can cause a MF or make once good ammo now shitty junk. Use more expensive Federal .40Cal HP's for home defense needs. Anti-reloader anal, cheap or older .40 S&W rounds
don't go thru my barrel for
many reason$. Bought new 1998 in CA ($750), approx 4K rounds fired to date. Seldom use as a CCW,
too big for year-round
total concealment, when I
do carry it's a smaller 1/2 size of the Springfield XD-9. Use an 'Uncle Mikes' Sidekick 'X' warp-around back, loops thru pants belt over both shoulders, straps nice sturdy black canvas & rubber holster under left armpit with restraining E-Z pop-off holding strap. Stays put and feels natural when I get to rolling in the dust for kicks 'n giggles! Still practice a 3 second rush, roll and recover, then bound forward 10 more meters to do it all again, basic infantry maneuver for dismounted bounding/travelling overwatch close on enemy drill for grunts, RTO's & medic alike. Hangs off side of main bed 8" from my head when not doing anything else but getting cleaned
well every 6 months or within 2 days
tops of even a single mag use.
I practice for a 3 second pull, flip-safety up, aim and fire cycle, or
repeat the drill until I get it down to 3-secs from out of holster to discharge. From standing to prone and
most combat stances common in use. Revert to BRM standard shooting full face-on/forward facing, bent-knees with feet 18" apart, makes (target me!) me 6" lower in that crouch using 2-handed mode for best results. Also gives BG a wider target (ME!) to return fire at, that is why I prefer the 1-handed
oblique stand for lo-width return fire profile. Swap out mags takes 4 seconds. Empty & rotate & clean loaded mags to keep the feed cycle smooth every 6-months empty/oiled to keep springs good. Replaced by 6-months into a 5 mag holder on my Sidekick gear/hoster,
ready to roll all snug on my 'Uncle Mikes' web-holster kit. Always keep it loaded 10+1 @
all times. 6 months empty mags on R & R per year then swap 'em out will save a 10 y/o mag from a F2F because the spring is shot, common mistake for folks who lock, load then forget about their mag/pistol for years! It would be my 1st choice if BG's are in my home for better knock-down 1-shot, 1 down power. Carried used M9's Beretta 92 (9mm) for 7-8 years as Army medic's issued side-arm, IMHO
not a weapon I would trust my life to. I am
not alone in that maxim per effects on Iraqi RG's during GW-1, empty 5-7 rounds (
!!!) B 4 my medics or the grunts who used 'em too could even drop a
super-charged RG doing the AK-47 rush 2 go meet Allah @ full auto. But had
no choice to use private/better pistols(s), plus
just try 2 get civilian ammo/clips
not in the TO & E issue in
bum-screw nowhere on the next LOGBIRD resupply trip! Total 7 years of 92's then 10 years private 96/Centurion use to date. I fire 'classic' 1 arm 45' oblique with left hand in small of back (shown above) for competitive matches or just to get the very best results. Trained +tested + graded by Rangers, SF and some Air-Force lethal pistol experts from the M1911A1 (76-90) to the M9 to do just that. Me and an M16 were
not a good match, I always
struggled thru ranges, tearing 'em down and putting 'em back together I had down to 3 minutes (FAST), with that rifle but stayed a lowly 'marksman' BUT I was rated 'expert' every 6-months with BRM M9 qualification on pop-up OPFOR targets @ 10-50-meters at various ranges worldwide U.S. Army 1990-1997, and I still hit dead center round standard bull @ 25-35 meters to this very day with a bigger round.
