Anyone here have an elderly dog? My Malamute German Shepherd that we fondly call our "Malamutt" is now 14 years old and you can tell that age is really creeping up on him too. He has slowed down a lot though he loves to do a parameter walk around our small farm in the morning, his hips are creaky and he has a funny gate to him though at times you would swear that he is a puppy again. I know his hearing is going as well as his eye sight but none the less we keep him as comfortable as possible.

We have a soft bed upstairs and downstairs for him, he is on rimadyl for his arthritis and hip dysplasia twice a day, glucosamine and condroitin at night and a 1.5ml shot of canine adequan for the hips once a week.

What do you dog lovers do for your elderly canines?

I have 2 that are elderly - both of them I've had since they were puppies. Tigger, my Samoyed/Shepherd mix who looks like a small Samoyed, or Large American Eskimo (He weighs about 60 pounds), is 13. Bobo, who at best guess is some kind of Irish setter mix, is 12. I watch them age with trepidation - They're both doing dang well for their ages, but I see signs of slowing down more frequently. I know they're getting towards the end of their life expectancy, and treasure the days I have with them.
