"Situational awarness" is key in law enforcement and should be with civilian open carry as well. A good example;
One tactic I was taught the first night I was on patrol; We were on night patrol and both decided to stop and get something to drink. As we got to the convenience store/gas station, my partner drove completely around the store and looked inside while doing it. He asked me "why do we drive around and look inside first deputy?" I thought for a second and logically answered, "So we don't walk into an armed robbery?" He said right! Then he asked me "who is the first person that guy is going to shoot when you walk into that store?" I said; "the guy carrying a gun and wearing a badge". His response was "exactly".

I can see having a 9mm. However, for training purposes, I would want to shoot the caliber that I am going to carry. That's just me. Is the G23 going to be your CCW?

G23 with 2 spare mags. I also put meprolite sights on it. I'll post pics when I get home.

I have just bought a G23. It is not as small as the 27, but fits my hand better. I have no problem in keeping it concealed. I also have a S2K with G22 mags so they complement each other.

I have a certificate to take a class there and am anxiously awaiting the day I can make a trip out West.

I don't know about the lead issue, other than the fact they tend to cause a buildup in the barrel. Before the prices went up last year I stocked up on the CCI Blazer Brass from Wally World & haven't had a problem w/ it. I never had a problem w/ jams, my Glock took just about anything, but my S&W HATED anything other than brass. But, I got it from my paramedic instructor, and he shot competition w/ it & had a buttload of work done to it, so it is a finiky beast. Love it, but it's just not a ccw piece d/t that fact. Don't trust my family's, or my life to a precision piece as that.
