Exclamation HK rifle lovers speak up

If you have a penchant for HK rifles, Cetme and HK clones speak up. Lets talk trash to all the AR and AK owners. After all the only other rifle that comes close is the FN FAL and we all know it's in second place for a reason.

I don't have one yet. Only have my HKP2000sk. I do have a birthday coming up soon though so if anyone wants to chip in and get me one I will appreciate it.

Pre 1994 or about then. These are actually HK licensed clones made in Greece.
Great gun if you can find one. Mine is identical to pre 1994 HK 91. You have to check the name to tell the
difference. Green furniture and all the rest.

Default Ptr-91

Hi all,

I'm brand new around here, this is my first "social group" membership. I like this idea of letting folks start their own group so you can discuss stuff without having to wade through off-topic posts. Nice!

Anyways, I own a PTR-91. Got smart and stocked up on mags and ammo back late last year. Prices on both hardware and ammo are now stupid-high, in my opinion! Guess everyone's figuring oBAM!a is going to take the Whitehouse... we'll see.

Where I need some help, please: I want to attach a carry handle to my weapon. I got one off gunbroker, it seems to fit just about every variant (including the HK 91 proper) except the PTR. Anybody have suggestions? Or maybe a specific carry-handle setup that will work with my rifle?

I'm looking forward to talking with all of you! Take care,

I have a firm belief that there are only two places a rifle should be in the field. On your back while traversing hill and dale...and in your hands at the low ready when required for quick reaction.

carry handles offer more headache than they are worth.

They get in the way of optics.
They make it too easy to bang your rifle into something when you start getting tired/complacent.
They develop squeaks and rattles.
They add weight where it does not need to be.

I have owned FN/FAL with carry handle and all of the above applied.
I have carried issued M-16A2 rifles in the USAF that were so dinged up that they were basically useless past 25M. Wouldn't you know that the carry handle was the cause if a lot of rough/mishandled equipment.

I have had the handle snap off in my hand on an M-249 SAW and it ain't no fun to fill out that much paperwork as to why you drop checked a machine gun.

You are better off in my humble opinion to add a first class optical or dot sight and forget the whole carry handle experience.

Get the best sling you can. It will serve you well for carrying and for accuracy when you use it as a hasty sling for stability at the elbow.

I am a rifle guy first and foremost...carry handles are a cool feature we can live without.

Sir, you bring up some VERY fine points! I suppose I was forgetting the true purpose of this weapon, that being a battle rifle first and foremost.

While a handle would be nice for a rifle that may see the range once or twice a year, you've convinced me of its lack of place on a true weapon...

So thank you for your insight and relaying your own experiences from the field. They have been most helpful.

Take care,

-Ben

I'm glad I could help. If you can get a CETME 5 rnd mag. They are handy for training and make the PTR91 legal to hunt in most states.

While I am at it...check your zero with the iron sights at 200m setting This is about the most useful peep sight their is...just make concentric cirlces out of the aperture and the front hood and set the bullseye on the post..it is fast and accurate once properly adjusted.

I've zero'd the weapon to 100yds using the 200m aperture. As you've said, it nicely shows where you're pointing.

Now I just need to find me a 5rnd mag...
