Handgun Law Question

I have been trying to find the answer to this question but no luck on Internet... I live in NC and my dad lives in MD. I know I can't visit him with my handgun (pissed about that one) but I need to know if he can come visit me with his handgun. He has a permit to carry in MD, as hard as it is to believe (Veteran, Cash business owner) but since MD does not recognize my permit (sucks) will NC recognize his and let him travel and stay in NC with his gun? He is coming to visit in a couple of weeks and I know he wants to show me his new handguns and let me shoot them. Will be thankful for any help!

Can he travel with his firearms?

Yes. Since NC doesn't recognize his MD CC permit, they need to be UNLOADED (including magazines or speedloaders), and stored in a guncase that is not accessible to the passengers in a motor vehicle (in the trunk) during transport. To be on the safe side, I'd have the ammunition to be stored separately, too (like in another locked case or bag).

Can he carry a loaded gun concealed while in NC?

No, not legally since there is no reciprocity agreement between his home state and NC.

Such matters are up to the state governments. Does it have to make sense as to why they don't recognize each others permits? We're talking about the government here, of course it doesn't have to make sense. Most likely, there is something in one state's CC law that the other doesn't like. Maybe the training requirements- or the lack there of. If one state won't recognize another state's permit (for whatever reason) the other state isn't going to recognize theirs.

Unless NC has a law on the books about it not being legal to let other people borrow guns, you should be able to shoot his guns.

He can open carry in his car and on his person. Both in va and nc.
