Actually, this one is produced in North Carolina, mostly with new US parts and some new Rumanian parts. It's made by Inter Ordnance Inc. I am familiar with the Draco sold by Century Arms.

I would never buy an "Americanized" AK sight-unseen so if you're thinking about ordering one off the web (or paying a dealer to order one for you).....don't. Too much of a crapshoot. You should inspect it yourself.....check the action, run some snap-caps through it, make sure the iron sights are aligned properly, etc.
I/O, Century, and other U.S. companies that make AKs compliant with our laws have a very spotty reputation. Sometimes you get a good one and sometimes you don't.

Yes, preferably you should inspect it hands on, if possible. I do actually own both a WASR from Century and an AK47C rifle from IO so I am sorta familar with what you are referring to. The WASR did have a bent front sight but the IO gun was fine right out of the box. So far the IO has been fairly reliable and without any real issues other than heat buildup on the front handguard.
I must admit I simply liked the look of the AK47 pistol since I first saw it and would like to add it to my collection. I understand it's probably not the easiest gun the to shoot and all

My Draco is very easy to shoot. A muzzle break makes it very controllable and the huge flash you get from shooting rifle ammo through a 12" barrel is kinda cool too

I had a chance to look over a couple of new import Draco's at a KC gun show two weeks ago and was impressed with the fit and finish compared to the earlier imports. If you are going to pick up an AK pistol they may be a better deal than one of the IO builds. I have one but it's a home build. Fun range toys for sure and with some time and effort they can be shot very well out to 100yds. Not a carry gun by any means though unless you want to garner way to much attention. Or wear a very big heavy coat everywhere.
