thank you all for the input but one other handgun came into the picture and that is the S&W M&P series has any one had any experience with them?

Just my 2cents, I would go with the 1911 too, but would go with the Kimber. I carry the Kimber most of the time and Have never had and problem with it. Very good 45cal. Not that the others are any less a gun. Thanks
