Default Ruger Mark III FTF issue

I went to the range with my friend the other day to pick up his Christmas present to himself. He bought a new in the box Ruger Mark III target pistol.

I know nothing about the model. I've admired them for some time but I don't know diddly about the inner workings.

He loaded both magazines and shot every round with out incident using plain old hollow point .22 long rifle ammunition. Got a real good pattern too.

The he started getting FTF issues on the 3rd magazine. It looked like the bullet wasn't being stripped form the magazine because the bullet was a little nose down in the magazine. We tried a couple of different ammunition's including lead round nose but still had the problem.

He found that by working the magazine front to back after it was inserted and locked into position, the problem would go away.

Anyone else have experience with the Mark III that can add some light?

Thanks Geezer. We didn't get the chance to really prep the gun the way I normally would. He was all giddy and wanted to get on the range quick. I'll pass the advise along! Again, thanks.
