    Default What caliber

Taking my daughter to the range Saturday and shes been shooting before but, she has only handled a .22 cal my Ruger 22/45 she did very well. I am thinking about moving her up in caliber my choices are my Taurus .357 which she can shoot .38's or my G19 9mm. I am thinking the Glock but the Taurus handles pretty good with .38+P so, if I just get .38 specials it should handle ok for her thanks. What do you think? Thanks

Is the Taurus a 605 or something similar in weight? Usually shooting 38 specials out of the heavier .357 revolvers takes a lot of the punishment out. I wouldn't load it with +P for her though, just keep it simple. My 12 year old step son shot my 642 airweight in .38 special no problem

My 10 year old boy handles my 9mm and .380 easily but prefers the .22.

I would have her shoot 'both' the Taurus & the Glock.
    See which one she prefers.

My twelve year old daughter did real well with my HK USP 9mm. It was the first handgun she ever fired. I started out only loading one round and stood behind her in case she tossed it. My concerns were unfounded and I slowly increased the number of the rounds in the magazine as we talked about her grip and aim.

In terms of ease of shooting you can't go wrong with a full-size 9mm.

Thanks but shes a little older than 12 she is 20 so, I believe she'll be fine with either as well. She has never shot anything higher than a 22. She was never really interested before and now is. I am working towards a CCW permit next year for her still think I am far away from that but will see. Maybe a little lady smith for her 21st will see how it goes. Thanks for the input

J-frame is always a good choice. I would also recommend S&W M&P compact if she prefers pistol to revolver.

Sounds like a good idea. Don't push her to larger calibers until she tells you she is ready.

The 9mm is good because of low recoil and the trigger system. Easy to shoot without having to turn the cylinder when shooting double action.
My .01.5 - lost money to taxes.... sorry.
