    Default 1911

Hi folks im in the market for a base 1911. I want to find something basic because i want to most of the upgrades myself. Would like your input on what would be a good start. I just want to do this so that its my personal CCW in every way. Thanks for your input in advance.

I have the SW 1911, it's OK. I've added laser grips and I need to change the sights. As I get older I'm having trouble seeing black on black.

Go with a Kimber compact stainless pro 2, it has a 4" bull barrel and a smaller frame for great carry comfort. It doesn't have any frills just a clean 1911 .45 you can customize.

There are a number of basic 1911s that can be upgraded. Most manufacturers make base models and you can go from there. Look for ones that have dovetail sights to start with. Every 1911 .45ACP I have has been modified from stock and all now include Smith & Alexander arched mainspring housings with magwell guides. All but the .22 versions have 3-dot sights.

I would recommend Springfield Armory 1911s. Their GI models are pretty basic. I think the sweet spot in the line up is the Range Officer. I've seen up to $200 below the $879 MSRP.

Wow.. What 1911 base to buy to upgrade? RIA tactical? Springer? If you are going to upgrade it don't spend a ton of money up front.
Good luck with this one. Be sure we get before and after pics!

I have a Kimber ultra carry II, it's been a real good gun, easy to carry and conceal. I bought the base model to upgrade it my self. I put laser crimson grips, and night sights so far.
