    Default 357 Sig

I've been looking at some compacts for my next gun and have been considering a 9mm but then I got interested in the 357 Sig. Anyone
have a compact handgun chambered in this or shoot one? I'd like
to hear what y'all have to say about it. Who makes a comparable but
less expensive gun than Sig that is light weight and rugged?

There are several good choices out there. Glock is one that comes to mind right off. The only reason I have I don't have one right now is the ammo is almost twice the price of 9mm, 40s&w,even more than 380. I would like to have a .357sig one day, but for right now, I'll have to shoot what I can afford.

I shot my brother-in-law's Sig P250 recently. He has the 40 S&W and Sig .357 conversions. It is now on my wish list.

I had a Glock 33 for a while. I was in the same boat about 8 years ago. Went back and forth between a 9mm the .40 and the .357Sig, Decided on the .357 because I was familiar with the .38Spcl and the terminal ballistics are much the same with the .357. For me it turned out to be a mistake.

I had issues with the gun and the caliber. The G33 has such a short grip that I had to go with a magazine extension to get a good enough grip to handle the .357. The ergonomics of the gun was all wrong for me.
The extension gave me the better grip but defeated the purpose of a compact.

The muzzle flash is absolutely incredible! In the indoor range it was enough to make me flinch but at night? Forget about it! You better be real accurate with the first round, you'll be blinded for a while.

I converted the 33 over to .40 after about a year and I was never sorry I did. It's a much more manageable cartridge for me. The G33 went bye-bye and I now carry a 4" XD40. Full size guns agree with me more than the compacts.

I have a Glock 32 gen 3. I love it. Snappy, accurate and very reliable. The necked case helps feeding into the chamber. I am a very big fan of the round.

I don't see the point of more expensive ammo. Everything around the 357 is cheaper, even 45 if you get that big. Just to have something most other people don't isn't always a good thing. Sometimes it is, just to see your bud's drooling, but in this case, I think not.

I prefer the .40 S&W cartridge over the .357 SIG.
Larger caliber, readily available & more affordable.
    Why complicate things?
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to answer your last question.

.357sig is a snappy, powerful round and I got to shoot it from a glock 32 and it it was nice to shoot. My buddy who had the G32 ended up trading it in for a H&K USP .45. Why? The ammo is expensive and .357 truly is a designer round to obviously mimic the .357mag. I love the .357 round but for personal defense I feel like .45acp is the cat's *****. Besides the cost of ammo for the .357sig, the biggest deterrent for me, was the chance for over penetration through walls, humans, etc. I have numerous friends in law enforcement that have issued .45s. So yes, I'm biased but there is a reason why the majority of LEOs carry .45. And the .40S&W....another designer round IMHO. :)

Hmmm, something I didn't look at was ammo price and availability. I read the 357 sig was a real accurate and flat shooter which outperforms 9, 40 and 45 for those reasons. I carry mostly an XD 45 4" which at times is a bit bulky and heavy for some of my coat pockets so I want something smaller and lighter. I really like the Sig P224 and 239 but don't know if I could part with 800.00+ and I am not real fond of polymer for some reason although I own one and it's an excellent firearm. I've also been eying a CZ-2075 in 40 and then convert with an aftermarket barrel but then I am at 800 again though I'll have 2 guns in one. I guess I'll have to make a trip to a local range and see if they have any compact 357 Sigs to rent. I wonder if shooting a 357 Sig compact auto with 3" barrel would be similar to a 357 mag in a lt wt snubby
