    Default 1911 saftey

I've got a kimber with an amadextrious thumb saftey and I'm useing a galco king-tuk IWB holster. both pistol and holster are new to me so I'm still getting acoustomed to it and checking things out. somehow or another the thumb saftey keeps getting shut off, I'll reset it check again later and its off again. This is a bit of a concern to me. has anyone else experianced this?

had this issue with my kimber kimpro in an uncle mikes belt slide, with a thumbrake strap. strap kept knockin the safety off. switched to a blackhawk serpa 2 belt slide, no more issues.

My Galco IWB does it too. But the solution for me was to bring the strap across between the hammer and the slide.

Take a sponge and wet the leather well right where the thumb safety sits against it. Place your Kimber in the holster with the hammer back, safety on. Now with your thumbs begin working the leather against the thumb safety. You want to form the leather to the safety creating an indent in the leather for the safety lever to rest in.

Thanks for the replies the holster has no strap so I'll try the wetting and forming the leather around the safety trick.

If your not left handed get rid of the ambi safety.

I have the same problem with my Kimber Ultra Raptor. I've tried several holsters, one's that covered the safety and others that left it hanging out. Every once on. While, several times a day sometimes, same thing.

I don't see where taking the ambi off would help since the right handed side is the inside. The ambi puts the safety on the outside of the gun. I don't think I'm bumping the outside.

I started carrying one of my Sig's or Glock's while i work because I was feeling uncomfortable. I carry the Kimber now when I'm dressed up, as it should be with the Kimber anyway.

so Ive formed the leather around the safety and had no luck with that, so I trimmed the leather back so their is nothing resting on the safety but me, and every time I check it its off again. I've studied it and its just while doing normal movements the pistol moves enough to disengage. Think I've just got to figure out how to stiffen it up.
