    Default Feed ramp polishing?

Is it a good idea to polish a feed ramp, even on a pistol that has no apparent issues? I'm not speaking of altering the ramp's profile in any way -- just a light polishing with fingertip and cloth using Flitz, or Simichrome, etc. Can it be good "insurance", or could it create any issues where none existed?

I'm a firm believer in 'if it works, don't fix it'.

If it works, don't mess with it.

My pistol jammed and failed to feed frequently so I gave it a light polish with 600grit wet dry sandpaper using a piece the size of a chiclet and the rubber eraser end of a pencil. No Issues since. But I had a problem. If yours feeds fine don't mess with it.

Some guns are made to shoot ball ammunition. Read your pamphlet that came with the gun. My kimber papers say it was made for round ball ammunition. That doesn't mean it won't feed some hollow points. But not all. So if you have a problem with the feed. Try another stile projectile, or brand. till you find a load that it likes.

ex i picked up a hipoint 9mm at a flea market here in new mex for a range plinker and the first two mags went smooth since then i cant empty a mag without nose dives double feeds and what not -- i have adjusted the mag lips and still nothing -- i even bought a 10 round clip to see if it was just the first 8 round clip but no help with problem -- maybe a feed ramp polish will help ?

Try a magazine next time instead of a clip, that should solve your problem

Im not a gunsmith so your mileage may vary, but when mine was having trouble the bolt face had a line stamped into it from the rims of the misfed cartridges. I buffed that out with the 600 grit and solved my problem. Maybe you have a similar issue where the round is getting snagged. Good luck! *this post should not be misconstrued as gunsmithing advice. Good luck ;)
