Default Self Defense Training & Martial Arts In Texas?

    Self Defense Class?
I'm looking for a self defense class in the Austin area that teaches real life close quarters scenario training. Something that helps when you don't have your gun, can't get to it immediately, or gives you time to draw your gun. Any recommendations out there?

    What Style of Martial Arts?
I'm also thinking it would be good to start taking ongoing martial arts classes. I'm thinking something that doesn't take a life time to learn and is practical in street fighting/close quarters. Most fights seem to involve grappling, so something that teaches that seems like a smart choice. I'm not interested in looking pretty or being able to do the splits. I'm interested in protecting my family and being able to walk away from a bad situation (hopefully without needing to go to the hospital)

Authentic Israeli Defense Forces Krav Maga!! NOT civilian Krav Maga, and not any MMA. MMA has rules. Bad guys on the street don't play by the same rules. IDF Krav Maga training is available in Austin. It doesn't take long to learn either. It was developed to take about 21 hours to learn the entire curriculum, and then you just practice with a training partner(s)to develop your skills. Nothing like the dojo that keeps you coming back for years.

Man now that looks effective! I heard the name a few time but never seriously looked into it but I'm definitely checking that out now. Are you familiar with any of the schools in particular?

any tips on a basic self defense class I can attend with my lady? Something that would be good for both of us? She has a trip out of the country coming up soon so something that's not too long or complicated to pick up. Simple techniques, situational awareness, etc.
