    Default 2011 Iowa permit changes

With the new law coming in Iowa, does anyone know what states will honor Iowa's permits? The way I read the law, Iowa will not reciprocate with any state but will honor any states permit.
Does this mean that Iowa will be recognized by most of the states like Florida and Utah permit holders?

    Default Iowa reciprocacy

In fact it looks like Iowa will be getting the opposite recognition from these states. In fact Iowa's law for licensing is becoming easier to obtain a license and with that and the lack of entering into reciprocacy agreements with other states it is going to be more likely that fewer states will recognize Iowa's license. I have seen nothing stating which states will or will not honor Iowa's permit after the first of the year and was waiting for the updates to come on USA Carry. I would expect, however, for the number of states that recognize Iowa's permit to get smaller.

How do you see it getting easier? Easier in that the sheriffs no longer have May Issue power they have to issue if applicant is qualified. Training is still required...background check will still be done....?

It's easier with the sheriff being out of the picture. The training and background check is not that much to ask to get the license. Its better than begging the sheriff and not getting a chance.

I believe it is easier in the sense that training does not require shooting at all just class room lecture.
Renewals can either take a class ^^^ or you can qualify at a range with an instructor.

Some classes can have class room & firing of hand guns both, but this is not required like before 1/1/2011

    Default Iowa CPL Reciprocity

Michigan honors ALL other States CPL, CCW Permit, CHL, etc. You just have to abide by the particulars of Michigans law concerning Pistol free zones. However, if it is a PFZ, and you have a license/permit for concealed carry, you CAN open carry in all the PFZ's other than a federal banking institution, and a court, unless it is a privately owned business and they have it posted that no guns are allowed.

What is a "federal banking institution"?

It will take time for states, except those that have a blanket rule to honor all permits (Missouri, Oklahoma) or not honor any (New Jersey, New York), to investigate and decide whether or not they'll honor Iowa permits. Iowans will simply have to wait and see.

Alabama, for example, honors the permits of every state that honors the Alabama permit. So now that Iowa recognizes Alabama, Alabama will probably soon recognize Iowa. However, some states (e.g., Nebraska) base their policy on the training requirements of the other states. If Iowa doesn't require a certain degree or type of training, then some states won't honor an Iowa permit.
