Not an excuse for being a dumbass. Don't take guns out in public and discharge them.

Agree...annoying that I have to provide 15 characters just to say "agree"

Shame on the officer for not handling the situation better, but agreed, the guy was an idiot and got what he had coming. Sad

One SD scenario that has always been bothersome to me is if someone points a "gun" at you and you shoot them. Later the "gun" is determined to be plastic or a bb/pellet gun. Now, depending on the gun, one should not dismiss the bb/pellet as being incapable of creating serious bodily harm. But a quick decision is called for. The situation when it turns out that junior was just playing around, and "shame on" the defender for not realizing it will most likely turn into a media circus followed by a legal circus. I have seen instances were a car full of teenagers roamed about shooting paintball guns at people and things.

In cases like this, the public is pretty much always on the side of the innocent playful youngster who "clearly" had no intent to harm.

Many pellet guns look just like any other real gun. If you threaten or point any type of rifle at a cop, it's your fault when they shoot you.

Pellet guns, whether rifles or pistols, are NOT just harmless little toys. They can be just as deadly as .22s. Putting out someone's eye is one result of their misuse.
