It has a flip up rear sight, MBUS I think is what it's called. Was trying to mount a scope high enough to see the iron sights below. Have looked at many pics & have not seen anything exactly like it. So maybe I'm on the wrong track.
You're right about the rear sight being flip-up but I still believe that it's attached permanently to the upper as opposed to being clamped on a rail. If you remove the front sight like you said you want to, what's your plan for a replacement? I could be wrong but I think that only the tall, triangle front sight will work with that rear sight. In other words....the stock sights are pretty much your only option when it comes to iron sights. You can still mount a scope on the top rail, you just have to use a riser of sorts (something that every AR needs for comfortable sighting through a scope.). I believe you can attach a removeable carry handle to the top rail of your rifle (a la the traditional M-16 look) and then attach a scope onto the handle. There are quite a few optics that are designed to go on top of the carry handle.
The rifle you bought is great for plinking and varmint hunting (as well as taking out zombies and rampaging terrorists
) but I'm not sure if it's the best choice for major customizing.
