    Default Question for MA instructors

I just got my first student under 21 years old. We have one cert form for the state with the space for (Certified Course Title) and then (Course Cert Number).

I teach the same course no matter what, "Basic Pistol". The student is applying for a FID - 001 Class C, but is qualified none the less for a LTC -002.

Do I write LTC - 002 on the certificate? I don't want this student to have to go through another course when turning 21 and wanting to carry a pistol. But I also don't want the chief issuing the permit to say it's the wrong form and deny the permit. Pains in the asses.

    Thanks for any help.

NRA Basic Pistol, LTC-002, meets the requirements for any MA license. On the line above "valid for LTC" write "yes", on the line above "valid for FID only" write "no". I have given this course to many people, including teenagers, who have only applied for an FID. The certificate will remain valid for your student to apply for the LTC at age 21 (at least under current law).

Thank you Rob. Very clever, I will do just that. I was taught to simply check one or the other and write in 001 or 002. It's difficult enough for grown ups to make their way in today's economy, I hate to see kids waste money.

If you look on the GOAL website, you'll find a printable PDF of the MA certificate that is much better than the quality of the blank copy that the state sends you. In addition, there are Word templates for both the NRA and MA certificates. I preprint MA certificates with all data except the student name, DOB and course date. PM or e-mail me if you can't locate them, and I'll e-mail them to you on Monday (on the road right now).

That's the one I'm already using. Thank you.
