Exclamation *Hug triggers off duty officers firearm*

A woman celebrating the weekend before her 25th birthday was fatally shot Sunday when she hugged an off-duty police officer while dancing at a party, causing the officer's service weapon to fire, according to police and her mother.
Adaisha Miller would have turned 25 on Monday, according to her mother, Yolanda McNair.
The shooting happened at an outdoor social gathering about 12:30 a.m., said police Sgt. Eren Stephens. It happened on the city's west side.
According to Stephens, the woman "embraced the officer from behind, causing the holstered weapon to accidently discharge." The bullet punctured Miller's lung and hit her heart, and she died at a hospital.

Already being discussed: Off-Duty Detroit Police Shooting

Nothing personal. It's just that we typically end up with half a dozen threads on every news topic.

I need someone to explain this one to me. The only way the muzzle could have been pointed towards someone to the rear would be a shoulder holster with the gun parallel to the deck. In that the gun was in a holster, how was the victim able to somehow squeeze the trigger which would have been inside the holster? Then, assuming that the woman was perhaps slightly smaller than the cop, and hence having her body in position behind his, receive a fatal shot from a muzzle between the cop's arm and side of his chest.

So this is the latest update:

DETROIT — The mother of a Detroit woman shot when an off-duty officer's gun went off during a party says she is going "to stay on top" of the city's police department during the investigation into her daughter's death.

Yolanda McNair says Adaisha Miller would have been celebrating her 25th birthday Monday and was invited to Saturday's fish fry by friends who knew the officer.

Police Chief Ralph Godbee told reporters Monday that Miller was dancing with the officer and touching his waist from behind when his holstered handgun fired, striking Miller in the chest.

Godbee says the gun was in a waist holster made of soft material. He says there is no evidence the officer fired the weapon, but he stopped short of saying Miller may have accidentally pulled the trigger.

If the gun was in a waist carry holder, how is she shot in the chest when the barrel is pointing downwards?

Story said it was a glock. Glocks have zero safeties and are dangerous.

I had a holster made of soft leather but even with that type I don't see how you could move the trigger enough to fire it. I have a SOB holster that holds the pistol horizontal but that would be to low for a shot to her heart unless he is very tall and she was super short. Very interesting

And bob16066, I'll take my dollar and use it towards ammo for my Glocks thanks. LOL

I read the stories this morning and I didn't see anything about it being a Glock. What news story was that in?

Since I'm a dummy about the Smith $ Wesson, what is the safety set-up? The article I read said it was a Smith and Wesson semi-auto pistol in 40 cal and was worn inside the waistband and covered by his shirt. ( I realize they may have been mistaking the 40 S&W for the brand of gun) This article also said she hugged him from behind but included there were reports she had been flirty and had grabbed him by the front. Either way she must have had her hand inside his pants to activate the trigger.
