For your next VA Visit

One of my CCW students recently sent me an email with the below content.

He's an Army doc, visiting for his own check up. The Army doc wasn't my student, but the person he emailed this to was - and he encouraged sharing with vets (especially vets with CCW). Here's the email:

Asked me those same questions. I don't like it, and that's B.S.. They are targeting us "Potential Right Wing Terrorists". They are all jackholes, just trying to find another way to strip people of their rights

Don't say much at the VA, even to your psychiatrist. I almost guarantee it will prohibit you from making your next purchaase of a firearm if you tell anything more than "I'm doing great except for this broken bone" This is assuming you may need psychiatric help. If you need to be admitted for psychiatric treatment, then be damn sure you are a "Voluntary" admittance for such treatment. It will help you in the long run to purchaseing firearms.

If you need to get help for PTSD then by all means do so, but if you've got insurance through your employer then go to a physician that is not connected to the VA system.

That's been around for a while. First of all to lose your 2A rights you must be involuntary committed to an institution or have been adjudicated as mentally ill. You can admit yourself to an institution and still keep your rights. The VA did submit names a few years back but they were purged from the system. There was a long thread on this subject about a year ago.

I think this is one of those email hoaxes that gets sent around a billion times and forwarded to everyone on thee planet. I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2004 and I have had no problems getting a CCW or pistol purchase permit. The only disqualifier is if you have been non-volunarily admitted to a phych ward. The VA sent me to the Psych ward for 10 days for "observation" but it was voluntary. The Dr. told me if I did not go voluntarily that she would do it involuntary, so I went. Nothing shows up on my "record".


If you read most of the applications for CCW, they read: (from Florida CCW application)

"Have you ever been adjucated mentally incapabale?" (adjucation requires an order of the court.)
"Have you ever been adjucated mentally defective"?" (again, adjucation requires a finding of the court.)
"Have you ever been committed to a mental institution?" (committed, not admitted. Commitment requires a court order from a judge).


If there was some mysterious conspiracy I doubt I would have been issued a CCW or a federal firearms license.




"DO YOU FEEL STRESSED?" if that was the case, nearly every fricking business owner in America would be disqualified for a concealed carry permit. Who, at some time in their life, hasn't felt stress?

The only thing I have to say is --- How did the nurse know you had a concealed carry permit? Having said that this thing has been around and around it is "BS"...

Veterans can lose their weapons permit if they answer yes to three questions in a medical exam-Fiction!

I work for the VA. Those questions are asked. However, to reveal your answers would be a felony..... UNLESS... you are, or have been ADJUDICATED mentally deficient, or dangerous, and are legally REQUIRED to be confined, committed, or attend therapy. Voluntary committment, treatment, or counseling pose NO threat to your Second Amendment rights. Don't listen to the internet BS, go to, or call your local VA, and ask to see the Privacy officer, or HIMS manager. Ask them. HIMS = Health Information Management Service. That's where I work.

Get a copy of HR 2640, and read it.
