Jealous in Los Angeles, California

I have to admit that reading about you lucky guys that are getting CCW's in your home state makes me very jealous. I have yet to apply here in Los Angeles because I've been told over and over again that "you just can't get one here!" How's that for California Crazy?! I used to live in Arizona where it's still legal to carry a loaded gun out in the open and, unless you're a criminal or nuts, getting a concealed carry permit is no big deal either. But here, with these looser politicians and lefties who think the word "gun" is a dirty word, you have to have "a reason" for carrying a gun. I'm told that there are no guidelines or rules-of-thumb written down establishing the parameters. It's up to the public official (Police Chief or Sheriff) to make an on-the-spot judgement call. Hmmmm. If any of my fellow pistoleros out there have any good ideas, please, please let me here 'em. Eventually, however, I will at least apply knowing full well that I'll get a turn-down letter. Nothing ventured... Right?

Welcome! This is a very useful site for CCW information.

California is a special case when it comes to CCW and that 'cause ' statement has driven a lot of people there crazy. In LA you'll get turned down anyway, but Team Billy Jack is looking for people willing to apply for CCW in CA and appeal when denied.

Check this site out to get some CA specific info, but stay in touch here to get good info on the rest of the country. If you're like most Free People living behind the Kalifornia Kurtain, you'll want Utah, Florida, or another state's non-resident permit. This site is a great resource.

Get a bunch of other Californians together and make a lot of noise until you get some attention. Find some sympathetic lawyers and people who can put together demonstrations and that sort of thing. Nothing gets done unless you make a big stink. Also, get used to not taking "no" for an answer. When someone tells you "no", consider that your cue to keep on about it.

• Apply for a license
• Get refused
• Appeal
• Get your appeal refused
• Along with others, call them several times a day asking why. Don't accept any answer besides, "Ok, we'll give it to you." Be really insistent, to the point where they hang up on you. You may need to use Skype (for $35 a year you can call unlimited) if lots of phone calls will be a billing problem for you. Make it clear that you're *not* going to quit until they roll over.
• Call your legislators often.
• Don't quit. It may take a decade or two, so be patient. Hopefully you won't become a victim by then.
