Default Hello from the Great American Desert

Howdy. I'm new in these parts.

I guess you would call me an ol'timer, since I got my first CCW permit fifty years ago -- and in NY of all places! I've lived "all over" as they say, but now hang my hat on the high plains, in a reasonably gun-savvy part of this great country.

I live on a working ranch a long, long way from the nearest town (and it's tiny). No neighbors. I shoot what I want when I want and pretty much where I want. And I feel pretty lucky about that. There are ranges all over my place, and I even have a shooting bench on the front porch for both rifles and handguns. I carry every day, pretty much everywhere.

My state is open-carry, but of course I also have my CCW -- several of them to be exact, and I think at last count I am good-to-go in something like 34 states. I'm a long-time NRA firearms instructor, life member, and I tend to judge all aspirants for public office on their feelings about the Second Amendment. It's as good a test as any and a lot better than most. After all, if they don't trust me with a gun, why should I trust them with the government?

I own a few shootin' arns of all descriptions and lineages and have a goodly selection of candidates for concealed carry, though I am partial to .45ACPs. Even so, revolvers make up a good part of my battery and are on the hip about as often the autoloaders.

That's probably more than you wanted to know, but I thought an introduction was in order and there it is.

Hope I can make a contribution here. Thanks for having me.

Welcome from Texas. You are pretty lucky to live in a place where you can shoot pretty much anytime without having to pay to go to a public range.
