On the NBC nightly news they reported that the Government was thinking about requiring "Black Boxes" in all new cars...
My question is.. IF they require this, How long before Law enforcement starts using this information to their advantage???

I see you were going 53 in a 45, but I also see that yesterday you were doing 85 and the day before that you were doing 83.. On Star Systems can be tracked and followed anywhere, history can be used to find spots you've frequented and they can listen to conversations. Sure they'll tell you these things can only be done at the request of the owner or by court order but hey it's there. It's also another reason why I won't by GM vehicles now.

These "black box" recorders have been in many cars for years already. The tech-savvy crowd denounced them when they first came to light. They've been used by law enforcement for a long time to record crash conditions where criminal negligence may have been involved.

The other side of the coin is that the car manufacturers don't want to give regular people access to the data from their black boxes to help prove their case in court. Toyota has been fighting to keep their black-box data secret while they're fighting the current lawsuits.
