The American people were overwhelmingly in favor of an an income tax because they believe the wealthiest Americans had consolidated too much economic power. The Senate passed the Income Tax Amendment unanimously. The House passed it 318 to 14. It only took 43 months to get it ratified.
But is not the idea of obtaining an education, working hard and becoming successful the antithesis of being a socialist? As far as raising taxes I have a novel idea. Instead of a progressive income tax that continues to soak the middle class why do we not go back to what our country was once before it tried to be like the communists and instead curb the spending.
