    They have smaller versions of this you can buy on the internet...or you can make your own. It's basically just a fat tube with rubber sheeting on one side, like an inner tube. You pull it back and let is snap, and it propels the air into a ring formation that travels quite a long way. The smoke isn't necessary; it's really there just for visual effect. The ones that are available retail have a trigger mechanism.

    I have the smaller version of this. Lots of fun around the house, but the cat REALLY hates it!
    I never thought about filling it with smoke to see the vortex it creates.
    Guess I have something to try this weekend.

    Might want to try dry ice...it looks like that's what they may have used.
