The next time you hear a politician use the Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about Whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
But one advertising agency did a good job of
Putting that figure into some perspective in
One of it's releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were Living in the Stone Age.
D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes,
At the rate our government
Is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

To rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
What does it mean?

I don't blame liberals for this, all politicians want to stay in power so they create bigger handouts so they have to create higher taxes to pay for those handouts.

I blame The People for wanting/expecting those handouts and keeping those politicians in power.

Not all politicians are like that. Unfortunately you almost never hear about those who aren't. They also aren't usually around for very long. Not all of 'the people' are like that either, though your point is well taken. This country has far too many freeloaders.

Not all politicians are like that. Unfortunately you almost never hear about those who aren't. They also aren't usually around for very long. Not all of 'the people' are like that either, though your point is well taken. This country has far too many freeloaders.

Agreed, not all of The People and not all the politicians.

Just 51%(or more) of The People are needed to put those politicians in power. Those 51%(or more) are not just liberals, they are also moderates and conservatives. Unfortunately the greater the handouts the larger that percentage becomes.

I'm not going to argue the numbers because there's no way either of us to prove them. What I will say is that a lot of people vote for those politicians not because they personally want a handout, but because they think the handouts are necessary for the downtrodden to survive. They see it as some kind of service they're doing for their fellow man. What they never seem to realize is that most of those handouts are doing more to create a growing, permanent downtrodden class than they are helping to raise people out of poverty. We're going bankrupt and we're just creating more and more beggars to feed at the public trough. But it isn't their own personal handout that many of these people are voting for. Just as many of those downtrodden couldn't be bothered to go out and find a job, many of them also couldn't be bothered to go out and vote either. Some do, but many others do not. They have the 'do-gooders' to do that for them. That's where the term 'bleeding heart liberal' came from. These people actually think they're doing something good for their fellow man, but they can't see the forest for the trees. There's a big difference between "can't work" and "won't work", but they've never seemed to be able to discern that difference. So no, not all of those votes come from people expecting handouts. I'd bet that most of them probably don't. They just come from well meaning people who don't know any better.
