Yes, I am a conservative and no, a Ruger 10/22 is not an assault rifle. As a matter of fact the libs came up with the assault rifle tag. AR originally stood for Armalite Rifle and somehow they got to Assault Rifle.

This is a key element of the left's war on guns. They would seek to eliminate "assault rifles" and then define such to include a Ruger 10/22. In upstate NY, every kid can't wait until he's old enough to get a plinker; and the gun of choice for many fathers is the 10/22. This is no more an assault weapon than a slingshot is a shotgun. The anti-gun population seeks to outlaw ALL semi-auto firearms.

I watched Mancow last Saturday night on Fox News where he took on two American and one British anti-gunners. I can't find the text or anything on youtube. The panel called assault rifles "machine guns." No one should be allowed to buy these machine guns because they shoot so fast that everyone is killed. I think if someone is going to argue a topic on a nationally broadcast talk show they should at least know the most basic information about the topic. But those watching who don't know anything about guns would now believe that an assault rifle is a machine gun; and they would support the ban. And there goes junior's 10/22.

There should be charges for spewing ignorance or intentionally incorrect information. Lady, if you don't know the facts, get off the show. If you're intentionally skewing the facts, get off the show. Either way, just get off.

I am a conservative also and believe that most of our Constitution is under assault. 2A is our last line of defense. And we
continue to allow the chipping away of that right because it sounds reasonable in application. A few more reasonable changes and there wont be a second amendment. For that matter it's the same with the first amendment now and the forth is all but gone. NO a Ruger 10/22 is not an assault weapon of any kind..

I can't even count the number of times I've had to correct people on Facebook posts about what an automatic weapon is. Or how "assault weapon" is just some made up BS. A while back I asked a guy what an assault weapon was, and after he described what he thought it meant, I showed a picture of my wife holding the Marlin 795 we got her for her birthday. A gun which he had just finished describing.

And they wonder why I'm starting to get snippy in my responses to them. I'm tired of repeating myself...

I still think there is a difference between being a progressive liberal and a Democrat. However, the Democratic Party of my parents today is not the same as it used to be. Today the "Party" has been hijacked by "progressives" which is simply a new gentle sounding name for an old adage. There are people out there that want to re-write the Constitution and install their version of civility. They have leaders like Chuck Schumer, Nancy P, Hillary, they call themselves Progressives because if you are not with them, you are against progress. Just another vilification of any opposition.

Not a conservative, and any rifle is an "assault rifle" if you assault somebody with it. It's one of those terms that doesn't really mean anything except the gun was black and scary and used for killing people. The problem is reporters without any knowledge of firearms just parrot what the last person said, then people without firearms knowledge hear it and think "Heavens no we don't need assault rifles, those are only used for killing people!" It makes sense if you don't know anything about guns.

I'm not a pistol banging person or someone who can't look at the other side of an opinion, but I really can't understand the Liberals who want to always restrict
my 2A rights, assault rifles are not semi auto rifles they are full auto rifles as far as I'm concerned. question, is a ruger 10/22 a assault rifle? Let us know what you think.

I did a survey here the other night that helped determine my political leaning. I’ve always thought of myself as conservative but this thing said I was 83% libertarian so now I need to study up on those guys. As for as the “assault rifle” (10/22 is not) What nut case voted for the nut job that thinks the person who commits the assault should NOT get the full penalty of the law BUT the weapon should get some new full penalty. I need a chicken sandwich break; at least I’m thankful they used a rooster and a hen.

I am a conservative and have been for over 30 years. I realized that liberalism is merely candy-coated Marxism/communism/socialism sometime in the mid-1980s, and have been trying to explain it to people since.

Who are these conservatives of which you speak, that are trying to tell people how to live? I don't know them, and I pretty much know every conservative in Congress. Either they are not conservative, or you have mistaken the desire for a strict interpretation of the US Constitution, the desire for enforcement of ALL laws on the books, the desire to stop intrusion of the federal government into matters that are obviously supposed to be determined by the states, and the desire to take our morals and values back to the days of Barry Goldwater.
