| With Thanksgiving a week out, maybe not every American is 100% proud of the financial or political turns this nation now endures. One small emblem of what this great nation was founded upon still exists, it is as patriotic as any Amendment to bear arms or freely speak and yet it costs little to buy, needs no permit to own or bear, is worn or flown in good or bad times and Old Glory is a design which has evolved over the years since Betsy Ross first sewed red, white and blue pieces of cloth together forming the first rendition of these United States of America national flag. I found this article online and decided to post it for a quick brush-up for any who may have forgotten that even though she is just a simple flag, she is a noble representation of our rich culture, a symbol of our courage and a beacon of freedom to a world who looks towards it when tyranny emerges. There are certain protocols and requirements for displaying her in accordance with time honored and established ways in which to show the Stars and Stripes properly from a simple lapel pin to a car decal to that flag you hoist on a pole at your home, and if you wish to treat this iconic powerful symbol of all we hold dear as Americans correctly, read on and download the free material. It also contains information on special and State flags. Promotion board 'trick question': "How many trucks are on this military post, and what's inside a truck?" Canis-Lupus Veterans Today © Jeff Seeber. The Military Salute Project has released the UNITED STATES FLAG MANUAL, a 45-page comprehensive summary of the Flag Code, public laws, Executive Orders, Presidential proclamations, DoD directives and military protocol regarding our flag. Topics covered include the history of the U.S. Flag, regulations for its use, the order of precedence, illustrated guidelines for display, positioning of flag patches and pins, displaying the flag on vehicles, how to fold the flag, half-staff information, and military salute protocol. Other subjects include information about the POW/MIA flag, the Blue Star flag, and the flags of the states and territories. The manual is free and can be viewed online or downloaded in Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF formats for printing on one side of a page or as a book on both sides of mirrored pages. | We've all been discussing in another thread (I believe it tis the Declaration of Independence thread by HK4U) that every student should be proficient in the Declaration, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Well, any good civics course should also include a section on the American flag. |
