Red Dot recommendation

My girlfriends dad called last night and was asking about the EOTech that I have on my AR15. He squirrel hunts using a Ruger Mark I topped with a BSA red dot. But said he was having problems with it.

1. It was washing out against a bright sky
2. He didn't like how big the dot was.

He liked my EOTech cause of the 1 moa dot, it was more then bright enough not to washout, and has no parallax. I gave him some prices on the EOTech and the Aimpoints but wanted to see if any of you guys know of any less expensive red dots/reflex sites that he might llike.
