Default Tuscarawas County Sheriff: CCW permits near expiration

Tuscarawas County Sheriff Walt Wilson is reminding residents who obtained a license to carry a concealed weapon at the beginning its program that they will approach their four-year renewal dates in mid-April.

In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, licensees have 90 days prior to and no later than 30 days after the license expires to renew it.
If the licensee fails to do so, the license will expire and no longer be valid, according to a release from the office.

To renew a license, the applicant must present a new application, including all of the addresses from age 18, and verify that he or she has re-read the carrying concealed weapons pamphlet.

The original or renewed training certificate of competency, a valid photo ID and fingerprint verification for a background check also is required.

The original training certificate of competency only is valid if it was issued less than six years prior to the renewal application date, officials said.

If the certificate is more than 6 years old, the entire 12-hour carrying concealed weapons course must be completed.

The renewal cost is $55 for residents who have lived in Ohio for more than five years and $79 for those who have not.
