People are more aware of you? It catches attention quicker...good on some point, I wouldn't have a clue on whether it is bad or not because I don't OC...too many problems.
I have noticed that the local police dept. in some postings have been somewhat quick to detain people who are oc. I have carried my gun with me numerous times for defense, I may have been carrying a tidy sum of money, or traveling etc...I just would like some imput on your reasons to carry, there are the obvious, it's our right to own ,and protect ourselves. But , would you mind weighing in on some reasons you op.Thanks I am new here, but have been looking at some of the posts and enjoying them and the forum.
A gun is like viagra, always there when you need it in a pinch.

I open carry because:
1 You will not be targeted first, if at all. (added since this seems to be a primary argument against, and this argument has no evidence to back it up)
2 Its a faster draw.
3 Its more comfortable.
4 It deters a crime before it happens.
5 It shows the public firearms are not evil.
6 It shows the public good people carry firearms.
7 Its my right as a living soul, and the 2A says what the government can not do, not what I can do.
8 I get the opportunity to educate more people than a cc.
9 I can buy pants that fit me. No need to dress around the gun.
10 I don't worry about printing.
11 I can always conceal it if I need to.
You will find a great amount of information on here, but you can also go to opencarry.org, they have a lot more on open carry specifically.
No thanks, too much attention.
I open carry when hunting other wise I prefer the element of surprise.

I have no desire to warn people ahead of time that they should shoot first.
TKC. As a CCr, I think the element of surprise is my biggest advantage. When I was a kid, I would take stuff. Every time I did (three that I can think of) I got caught! Not a very good crook, I guess. However, if I were so inclined and I wanted something someone had and I knew he was armed, the easiest way to get it would be to ambush or just shoot the courier. Never give up the element of surprise.
Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man gainst his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia...Tenche Coxe, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.
Not to offend anyone, but surprise is an offensive tactic. Most self defense scenarios are a defensive situation where surprise plays no role. There also has been no case where an open carrier was shot first in a crime.
