    Default Winter open carry

I mostly CC, but I like to OC too but never worried about conceal having a permit. I will be going to my home state of Oregon so my permit is not valid there and the permit I used to have there is long expired. So I will have to open carry. Any suggestions on open carry with heavy coats, etc?

Keep in mind that while only the Oregon Legislature can regulate concealed carry, individual cities, counties, etc. are able to make rules on open carry. You are exempt from any ordinances if you have an Oregon CHL.

I know for a fact that Beaverton bans open carry, there is one other city I can't recall atm. I'd certainly avoid open carry in downtown Portland.

Hope you have short coats. Dont let it cover the gun.

I've never thought about open carry during winter. But the only rigs I can think of to do this with and still wear warm coats are chest and leg/thigh. But they would be too mall ninja-ish.

I'd like to wear a leg/thigh rig cause I like the idea of the gun be easily accessible and also off my belt. But there's probably some other practical drawbacks.

    Wonder what Navy uses...

Yeah, I am aware of Portland, I used to live there but always had my OR. CHL. I will be on the coast and around Bend.

I just had a thought, I have a Galco 3 Slot Cop that I can use as a cross draw that would kept it exposed with the jacket on but open. I do have an older coat that is somewhat short that I don't use often as it doesn't allow conceal that well but could work for this.

Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Oregon City, Salem, Astoria, and Independence bar "loaded open carry", the maximum they are allowed to by Oregon state law. Portland also claims that a loaded magazine carried outside the weapon is barred, but the legality of that is debated in open carry circles. In those cities, you may openly carry an unloaded weapon without a permit.

Other than those listed cities, loaded open carry is legal. (Although you will likely draw police attention in ANY decent-size city/town in Oregon, loaded or unloaded open carry, except possibly Pendleton.)

With a heavy coat, a leg holster is your best bet. Anything on the waist is too likely to be partly concealed with anything but a very short jacket.
