Open Carry....Western Style?

Born and raised country/western in rural Ohio. Had a pony, hat, chaps, boots, and first pair of wranglers when I was 5 years old. My mama was a deputy in the County Sheriff's Posse when I was about 3 or 4? With the exception of the pony, I'm still country/western!

I bought a .22 mag single action revolver a month ago. Just for chuckin and snakin. I got a holster at the same show I bought the gun. Black leather with a snap retention strap. Made by Bucheimer holsters. It was made for the peacemaker. Says it right on the back.

Took a trip down to the local leather shop, and asked the gentleman to make me up a holster belt. We discussed the particulars, and when he was done with it, I took my gun in for a final fit.

He made the belt in black leather like the holster. He added a ranger setup for the buckle latch. A leg belt, instead of string. And a hammer retention strap, instead of a loop. All the add ons were made from the color Ox Blood. It's a real pretty reddish, mahogany? color. Great contrast with the black leather!

So now I'm ready to open carry my new varmit plinker. While I know it's not primary self protection caliber for a firearm, my concealed gun is. While I'm sure many are gonna say my carrying western style is too much "in the face" where the public is concerned. I know my open carry comrades understand that it's not the method of open carry that's important...it's that you open carry period. It's legal, and I've had nothing but good experiences open carrying thus far.

I'm curious how many others open carry "western style"? Or what your thoughts are on this method? And if anyone says I'm carrying this way to show off my gun...I'm gonna tell them I'm actually showing off my new holster & belt rig! lol!!!!

For special events I wear my 1851 Navy revolver cross-draw in a leather holster that was made in Iraq for my M9, but it fits my 1851 Navy almost perfectly. Funny, it's got Hadar, Iraq on the backside of the belt loop, but the snap on the retention strap is "The Great Seal of the State of Oklahoma" :-)

I'm pretty sure the leather was tanned with Camel urine because some of it rubbed off on my uniform when I first started wearing it.

It ain't nothing fancy, no tooling or anything. But I love the ranger and the texas ranger concho on the holster.

Thank ya! Don't know if being a "lefty" is a good thing or not when it comes to firearms? Since most of them are made predominately for right-handed persons; we as "lefties" have to overcome this, and adapt any skills we may possess, just to handle them safely? Hated to see shotgun and rifle shells flying in front of my face, so I got an old Ithaca Model 37 remake, and a Mossberg .22 tactical plinker w/casing deflector just for safety's sake!
