    Default Just moved to TN

Hey everyone. I recently moved to east TN from Miami FL (thank god). I had obtained a cwp from the state of Florida before moving and now have a TN drivers license.

    Two questions
    1. Does my TN DL make my FL CWP invalid?
    2. Can I OC aswell as CC with my FL CWP in the state of TN?

two suggestions, convert your FL permit to a non-resident permit (because you are no longer a FL resident) and then get your TN permit. Enjoy East Tennessee!

The TN permit covers open and concealed carry, so it should allow you to OC with your Florida permit (at least that's what I've read.) But I could be wrong on that, so it wouldn't hurt to call the state and ask. They do also honor non-resident Fl permits, so you could technically convert your Fl permit and be covered for both open and concealed carry without getting the permit. YMMV

The answer in actual Tennessee statutes is:

    Redirecting

    (B) If a person with a handgun permit from another state decides to become a resident of Tennessee, the person must obtain a Tennessee handgun permit within six (6) months of establishing residency in Tennessee. The permit may be issued based on the person having a permit from another state provided the other state has substantially similar permit eligibility requirements as this state. However, if during the six-month period the person applies for a handgun permit in this state and the application is denied, the person shall not be allowed to carry a handgun in this state based upon the other state's permit.
And yes, you can open carry with a valid permit.

You will like it here in East Tennessee. Depending on which city you live in there are USPSA, IDPA, Steel Challenges and three gun matches all most all year round. PM me if you like.

Some states will charge a fee for address changes or replacement permits. A Tennessee permit covers most states, but if the fee is low, it might be worthwhile getting the address change for the Florida permit, since they are good for 7 years, unless you are at the end of the seven year period. Some people have more than one carry permit, depending on their state of residence.

So, let's analyze this a little bit. A TN permit is good in all states that a Florida permit is good in, plus a few more (36 for Florida, 39 for Tennessee). Once the OP is a resident of TN for six months, his Florida permit is no longer valid in his new home state of TN. So exactly why should he bother to do anything at all with the Florida permit, especially if it costs $$?

If your going to live here go get your TN permit, I recommend taking the course at Coal Creek Armory in Knoxville or Gunny's in Maryville. Welcome to east Tennessee!

That's where I took my class. Coal Creek has a fairly decent indoor range and they offer rental guns too.

If I don't know some legal question like that I always research the information myself. It is important enough that I don't just take someone's advice that may or may not be correct. You must be sure.
