Gun rights advocates sue over university weapons ban

Gun rights advocates filed a suit today in the Oregon Court of Appeals seeking a ruling on the validity of a weapons ban at the state's public universities.
The Oregon Firearms Educational Foundation argues that the state Board of Higher Education exceeded its authority and violated the U.S. Constitution by banning firearms, even with a concealed handgun license.
The suit aims to resolve a long-standing conflict between gun rights advocates and the university over the weapons ban.
The latest case involved Jeffrey Maxwell, a Western Oregon University student who was suspended for possessing weapons on campus last winter. Maxwell, a Marine veteran who is not named in the suit, had a license to carry a concealed gun.

Well, since the Universities are public institutions, a ban on handguns carried by CHL-holders is in direct violation of Oregon Revised Statute.
The Oregon Firearms Federation has gone to bat for Oregon's gun owners and won several great victories.
