My worst fear is the prospect of the full resources of the federal government being aligned to 'improve my life' at all costs.

Why not simply let each individual freely pursue improving their own lives, to the extent which they choose to put forth the effort? That would save alot of resources from being wasted on folks who either do not want their lives improved in the universally prescribed manner, or will not responsibly manage the taxpayer-funded improvement upon their lives...

You said this well and I agree completely. The government already wastes way too many resources (our tax $s) on people and projects that have no desire for improvement.
