FBI: Gun sales up, murders down
The Federal Bureau of Investigation reports a ten percent drop in murders during the first six months of 2009, while at a time US gun sales are going through the roof, according to reports obtained by the National Association of Chiefs of Police. Meanwhile, gun sales to private citizens soared almost 30 percent during that same period.
Gun rights advocates claim that these numbers are further proof that there is no correlation between gun ownership and violent crime, state officials from the Second Amendment Foundation, a civil rights group. Further, the SAF contends that the increase in private citizen gun-ownership may have had an impact on reducing violent crime.
That is a good report for us as Pro-2A. But at the same time the Detroit Free Press is reporting that the FBI is saying that Detroit's Violent Crimes are up over last year.

Detroit is a special case. Detroit is one of those places that's going to be violent regardless of how restrictive or how lax the gun laws are. Michigan just became shall issue earlier this decade, but Detroit continues to be one the most dangerous cities in America. The same is true of my hometown, Gary, Indiana, which has had one of America's highest per capita homicide rates for most of the past 15 years despite being located in gun-friendly Indiana. In urban areas especially, violence is a fact of life. Look at Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, and Richmond, Virginia, all of which are located in shall issue states. The advent of shall issue, by itself, won't make these places less violent.
Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

Now if the anti's could only follow the logic, gun sales up and murders down. Must mean there's a problem other than guns. Could it be the criminal I wonder?
It's the economy, stupid, or wahtever the phrase is suppose to be. This is an ironic stat that usually in down economic times crime is suppose to go up. Maybe the ammo shortage resulted in people not having any to shoot each other with or just an coincidence or just maybe with the media talking about all the guns being bought criminal were more careful. Either way that murders are down is good and hopefully it will go down even more to perhaps zero.
Just goes to show that they should legalize all guns and ban Detroit.
