I am a life member, but still get aggravated about some of their decision-making. One of the things that bugs me is their rating of political candidates. I believe that they rate candidates simply on their support or non-support of the 2nd amendment. Sounds reasonable right? Therefore, just for example, Max Baucus of Montana, gets an excellent grade for support of the Second Amendment. However what the
NRA forgets is that the Second Amendment is a package deal. For example, Baucus has been Obama's "step and fetch" and one of his prime supporters of the nightmare health care bill. What has this got to do with the Second Amendment? Unreasonable government control in any area of our lives can be used to encroach and eventually violate second amendment rights. For example, it wouldn't surprise me one day if firearm owners have to pay higher health-care premiums than the "sheep" among us. The
NRA has too narrow a focus when rating these candidates. If government restricts your speech, raises taxes, or controls your health care, it can eventually impact your 2nd amendment rights as well.
