National health care is a necessity for building the euro-socialist paradise government (fascist and socialist-communists) types desire. If you look at European politics, health care is always an important (generally most important) issue for government. People become afraid of losing it once they have it -- much like our Social Security and Medicare debates. When you make a socialist style (snicker) program the central point of government policy, extending that type of control is fairly easy. We live in a nation where a substantial portion of the population doesn't want freedom or the responsibility it necessarily entails, they want government care and control. The 'nanny-state' is something their immature fears require.
So, yes, you're right. statists who wish to control everything will never understand that many of us wish to be left alone to pick and choose what we want in our own lives. They fear freedom.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.--River Tam
