Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons Ban

Although the current administration definitely needs to be watched concerning gun laws, I think they know they may be signing their election death with the health care bill. Should they attempt to outright ban guns right now it would undoubtedly be the end of most of the current representatives. They're in so far over their heads now that adding to it would only hasten the end of their political career.

I agree. The Socialist view this as a war for the country, IMO, and if some of 'em have to take a dive for the cause, they're willing to do so, it seems to me. How else can you explain them wanting to RAM healthcare reform through given that some 60% of Americans DON"T WANT IT. I think we need to wake up and smell the coffee.

You know, I'm all for gun reform, but not in the way most people think. I'd happily extend the waiting period another 5 days or more if it could actually accomplish anything.~

I just can not understand why wait 5 days. If I have abucktwonintyeight in my piggy bank and there is a nice litlle side arm, rifle, pistol, what ever, at the local store, why can't I go buy that side arm.

What is the 5 day wait going to accomplish ?? If I where so inclined and determined to do harm to another individual than I am most likely going to do him or her harm anyway. I can club someone just as easy as shoot them.

A waiting period has the effect of giving people time to cool down. " Hi, I've never owned a gun, don't know how to use one, and I want to kill my best friend for stealing from me. (Or my wife for cheating, etc, etc)" A couple days distance can make a world of difference. You are right, if someone is really determined, a waiting period will not stop them, but if they are just in a rage...........

In FL, if you have a CCW, you do not have a waiting period. If you don't, you have to wait. Not a bad system in my mind.

And, no, it is not as easy to club someone to death as it is to shoot them :-) The gun is the great equalizer, otherwise, everyone would carry clubs instead of guns (and England would outlaw them)

In fact, I where so inclined to do someone harm, I can use a multiude of way's to accomplish this mission.

I can slit someones throat much easier than discharging a firearm at them. If I'm going to do this I would be patient, recon their social habits, who do they socialize with, where ? Do they arm themselves ? are they capable of out powering me ? Where do they park their cars for work ? Are their video surviellance cameras in the immediate area ?

Point being, I don't have to wait five day's to "cool down" if I'm so inclined to do that person harm right now, today, tonight.

What other skill sets do I possess that can provide a deadly threat and execute that deadly threat desire to them ? Explosives ? Ambush with various other weapons ? Certainly.

A gun would be my last resort, but then again I'm more calculating than to just allow my emotions to force me to drive to a gunshop and do the "Saturday night special" type of purchase.


We can just agree to disagree. The 5 day waiting period, in my opinion, has no cause and effect on stopping any deadly encounters, revenge beatings etc. I'm betting that crime statistics from the USDOJ will show evidence of this last statement.

You live in Florida ?? That state seems to have more gun crimes than most other lately. How's that 5 day waiting period working out ??

Waiting periods have been so successful that most states don't have them.
