My 11 year old daughter kinda had the same thought process. I have a pre-ban (1993) AR-15 and she asked what that meant. I explained to her about the ban on certain types of firearms and she thought it was dumb to ban the type of gun you can own. She followed that up with "they should make the people that do the crimes pay for it by worse punishment".
