While there are militia groups that stand for the same things as the TEA Party groups, the media and pop culture have, over the past 35 years or so, portrayed militia groups as racist, anti-semitic, and under-educated. Since that is the image the general populace has been given of militias, there seems to be a reason for not wanting the TEA Party associated with militias.
Although not a valid reason ...
