Several of the patients and family's are non English speakers. Nobody asks proof of citizenship when someone shows up and needs medical care. The hospitals, provide care, and attempt to collect. When unsuccessful, they get the money from the Gov-ment.

The problem is Democrats AND Republicans. Each party vows to improve the situation if only they are placed in control of the government and each time control changes, things only get worse. Putting the Republicans back in control ( which looks like a likely outcome of the next round or two of elections ) will not make things any better.

Joe Arpaio is not the answer. As much as you might like his jails and his mistreatment of those who come under his control, he is part of the problem.
He's a megalomaniacal madman on a power trip who routinely mistreats prisoners (remember, county sheriff, many of these people are awaiting trial -- innocent until proven guilty) and leaves Maricopa County to pay millions of dollars in damages.

While you cannot find a Police Department & or Sheriffs office in the country that has not had some CRIMINAL complain about mistreatment, some valid, some not; it is the exception and not the norm and Sheriff Joe is no exception...

I have a lot of friends & family in Phoenix, Arizona & Maricopa County specifically, several of them Marines that I served with on more then a few deployments; that are now Maricopa County Deputy Sheriffs and I can reiterate from what they have told me a lot of the abuse complaints are filed against the Detention Deputy's which due to the economy and like the TSA Security folks are underpaid and under-trained and you often end up with somebody less than desirable for such a position of responsibility; yes I suppose you could put that on Sheriff Joe, but like any CEO he has to work with the budget he has been given by the Legislature & Tax Payers, and I commend him for his frugal handling of tax payer dollars...
I highly respect the fact that Sheriff Joe, & the Arizona Legislature is actually doing something tangible about the illegal alien situation in the Kidnapping Capitol of the Country...

In case you were not already aware, Arizona has already acted. The state passed a mandatory E-Verify law in 2007 to ensure that legal workers to not have to compete with illegal aliens for jobs. Its new law, SB 1070, allows its police agencies to enforce the United States' immigration laws. This means that more illegal aliens will be arrested and deported and more unemployed Americans and legal immigrants will find jobs.
If you care about the safety, security, and economic well-being of our respective state's citizens, you will do all you can to support strong immigration-enforcement legislation. Given the interest in Arizona's law, there is no better time to act than now.
AND for the record, in Obama's first 30 days in office he spent more money than all other administrations did in their entirety, in the history of the country; inflation adjusted!
