A good story and applies very well but there is one thing in it that I would like to point out. The tobacco subsidies that are mentioned never happened. While there was a subsidised tobacco program for flue cured tobacco it actually made money. The program would set a minimum price for tobacco and if the bid for that pile did not bring the minimimum price then the program would buy it and later try to sell it to the manufacturers. Every year my Father would get a check for his portion that he "sold to the government" and they had later sold for a profit. I don't think any other farm subsidy program had the same outcome but the tobacco program actually generated an income and profit.

I keep telling you Americans love Socialism, in the sense that a majority of them believe that what many label as "Socialism" is in reality merely a collection of social reforms that the good citizens of the U. S. general agree with.
