Conservatives, Guns, Christianity

I am just looking for input from the board regarding this issue. Why does it seem that those heavily influenced by conservative views are also firearm owners. And why do these conservatives consider themselves part of an offshoot of the Catholic Church, a loosely affiliated defacto parish that claims Christian values but cannot separate church and state? I am trying to understand the mentality of the members here, and why certain values appeal to them whether it be the saving graces offered to them by the Christian Parish or a number of other reasons.. Enlighten me.
