Vote fails due to not having 2/3rd votes for.House rejects extensions of Patriot Act provisions - Yahoo! News
Contact your representatives and encourage them to vote against extending the USA PATRIOT Act again. Remember, these are your rights that are being violated. The FBI can break in to your house while you're gone using hand written search warrants (not signed by a Judge), vandalize and leave listening devices (bugs), and not tell you for a month. These "Sneak-n-peeks" as they are called in the Patriot Act are a gross violation of the 4th amendment. A 16 year old boy, whose computer's IP address was hacked, was arrested. Although the FBI found no evidence against him, they refuse to let him speak with parents or even an attorney. He has been denied his rights, and you too can expect the same treatment if the FBI decides that you're an enemy combatant. Who was it that said, "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety?"
Now is the time to quit cowering behind the wall, and stand up and speak your mind to Congress. Tell them we want our liberty! GovTrack has links to allow you to email your representatives. Members of Congress & U.S. Congressional District Maps - GovTrack.us

The bill voted upon yesterday, H.R. 514, merely extends the sunset date for certain provisions of the USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 and Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, from February 28, 2011, to December 8, 2011. It would not add one thing to what is already current law. There's been a tremendous amount of misinformation and fearmongering about things that this bill would allegedly add to current law that simply do not exist. Read the very short text of the bill for yourself.

But the thing to worry about is that in the Senate, they are trying to remove the sunsetting. It would be best if it just died. Now when it comes up the regular way, it can have things changed. Which could be even worse. Congress needs to get rid of the "we'll make it so if we don't vote no, it passes" mentality too.
Jim,
Surely you're not in favor of extending the USA PATRIOT Act! That would be unconscionable. We are not safer because of this horrible piece of garbage legislation. I guess I haven't been privy to the misinformation about what would be added. I read it as only extending the sundown dates.
Somebody please explain this. The Republicans are largely in favor of the 2nd amendment. Why then, do they do an about face on the 4th amendment? You can't just pick and choose which amendments to follow. It's not A' la carte. Send your Congressional Representatives a message. Tell them that you're disappointed if they voted to extend something that is unconstitutional. Members of Congress & U.S. Congressional District Maps - GovTrack.usWASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Republican-led House of Representatives voted on Monday to extend expiring surveillance provisions of the anti-terrorism Patriot Act, overcoming unanticipated early opposition.
On a largely party-line vote of 275-144 vote, the House sent the measure -- a proposed nine-month renewal of three provisions set to expire in two weeks -- to the Democratic-led Senate for consideration.
"The 2nd amendment was never intended to allow private citizens to 'keep and bear arms'. If it had, there would have been wording such as 'the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed'." -- Ken Konecki on Usenet, on 27 Jul 1992
Our former Republican Representative didn't do a good job representing the people or protecting the US Constitution. He didn't even make it past the polls. Even when he tried to get elected into another position, I voted against him...
That is why we have a new representative is the House now.
Just wish we could call back one of our Senators from a prior election.
He stopped working for the people and started working for/in the "System."
